On June 26th 2003, Mr. Sumikazu Kato was appointed as
the new President of Janome Sewing Machine Company, succeeding
from Mr. Koichi Seki who had been President since 1997.

The above appointment was made after Janome’s annual
Shareholder's Meeting on June 26th and his first official
appearance as President to the public was at Janome Institute
held in Las Vegas June 29th-July 2nd, 2003.
During his speech to Janome's dealers at the Institute,
he commented on the excitement of his appointment and
his responsibility as the new President of Janome:

"I have been working with Janome since 1965 and during
this time I have had many exciting opportunities. I would
like to tell you that my new assignment to work with all
of you as President of Janome Tokyo is the most exciting
of my career. I pledge to you that I will work hard not
only for Janome but also for the entire sewing machine
industry. That is my mission and promise to you."

After entering the company in 1965, Mr. Kato has had a
long and distinguished career in Janome beginning with
his promotion to General Manager of Production Control
and consequent appointment as Vice-Chairman of Janome
Taiwan in 1988, followed by promotion to Director of Janome
in 1990. His appointment as President is the culmination
of 38 years of dedication to Janome. 
Mr. Kato has pledged to reinforce Janome's position as
the world's leading manufacturer of sewing machines and
his strong leadership and vivacity will surely add to
the growth of Janome in the coming years.
