Janome machines receive Good Design Award 2010

Janome’s Horizon Memory Craft 7700QCP, and the product series of 3160 QDC/ QXL605 and 2160 DC/ DXL603 are awarded a 2010 Good Design Award by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO).

The Horizon Memory Craft 7700QCP boasts a workspace larger than that of the standard 225 mm for commercial-use sewing machines at 280mm, and beginner to advanced sewists alike can enjoy its full range of features and functions including a direct pattern selection key that allows for an easy change to the straight stitch plate, as well as a jog dial and touchscreen panel for accessing functions. The metallic red panel on the matt body provides a high-class finish and elegant touch to the machine’s appearance.

The 3160 QDC/ QXL605 and 2160 DC/ DXL603 models offer user friendliness through stitch selection, a programmable auto thread cutter and 6 levels of presser foot adjustment, which are all accessible through buttons and large, sleek LCD displays set on black backgrounds. Their stylish designs which blend in naturally to any living space are notable features of these models.

All of the models were highly appraised by the Good Design Award judges who commented with enthusiasm on the Horizon claiming, “The appeal of this machine is its operation panel which stands out from the machine’s easy-on-the-eye design to give it a sharp image”. The judges also stated, “Concentrating the functions, which have shaped the development of this new sewing machine, in an operating panel eliminates complication and creates an attractiveness that is unique yet balanced”.

The positive comments from judges continued for the 3160 QDC/ QXL605 and 2160 DC/ DXL603 models with the strong point judged to be their “Coherent designs that eradicate the confusing look of sewing machines without sacrificing user-friendliness thanks to their display panels and buttons”. It was also eagerly noted that the machines are “Well designed with shapes that are not too rigid and which strike the right balance between their lines and graphics”.
